Are There eBay Alternatives?
Many people want to know if there are any viable eBay
alternatives? Sure, there are, but with the exception of
Amazon, the alternatives aren't really that
promising. You can use an online
marketplace that will not even get 1/100th of
the traffic that eBay gets or you can decide to build your own
website.

When it comes to picking another online
marketplace, there are plenty of them out there, and yes,
most of them have cheaper fees than eBay. But
you've got to remember you get what you pay
for.
Other auction sites like uBid or eBid are fine
sites but you might get a little bored waiting for
the traffic to come in. The problem with these
sites are that for the most part, the general public
doesn't know about them.
With eBay, you've got a brand name that is
instantly recognizable around the world. When
people in their 80s know what eBay, you are definitely
listing on a site that has garnered mainstream
attention.
People naturally just type in eBay.com on
their web address when searching for a product just out
of tradition. That's why eBay will always
be the largest online marketplace in the business, just
like Google will always be the preferred search
engine that people use. They have gotten so used to
it.
When it comes to building a website, I
am a big proponent of doing this. HOWEVER,
you should form a website along with eBay, and use
eBay as a way to filter traffic to your website.
Otherwise, you are going to have to a really
tricky time bringing in the traffic.
With eBay, there really is no
effort when it comes to traffic. On your own
website.....well that is a different story
altogether. You've got to build content,
backlinks, pay for traffic, etc.... to get consistent
traffic onto your site.
So, no matter how you slice it, eBay
is still the best alternative for those that have no
experience in internet marketing and promotion. It
is for people that want to start making sales TODAY and
continue to do so in the long run.
